As one of my first steps in exploring the Jewellery Quarter, I decided to first find out what types of buildings and building functions there are already in the area, as a way of understanding what the need is for future developments. The map above was born as an illustration of the different building functions.
Here are some of my conclusions:
The Jewellery Quarter is a rather densely built in area, with a very low number of green spaces and parks.
As the name suggests it too, there is a significant number of jewellery workshops and retail units in the area.
There is a variety of restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs, however some of these seem to be rather cheap and dissatisfying from a design perspective.
There are a couple of museums and galleries, however they seem to focus more on jewellery-making and antiques, with only a couple hosting actual art exhibitions.
